Making for a tight race as the President's Day run gets underway, "Safe House" has taken a slim lead to grab ahold of the top spot at the box office during the holiday weekend of February 17-20, 2012.
The Denzel Washington/Ryan Reynolds spearheaded crime/thriller raked in $6.5 million on Friday and another $9.6 million on Saturday while projected to close out the four-day weekend with $27.5 million.
Situated closely behind in second place is the Rachel McAdams/Channing Tatum starring romantic drama "The Vow" - which took home $7.4 million on Friday and $9.3 million on Saturday while pacing towards a second week cash take of $27 million.
Nicolas Cage starring fantasy/thriller "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," which took in an estimated $7 million on opening day while expected to wind up with a debut weekend total of $25 million.
Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated weekend totals are the Nicolas Cage starring fantasy/thriller "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" ($26.5 million), followed by Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens and Dwayne Johnson's family adventure "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" ($25 million) and Reese Witherspoon's new release "This Means War" ($20.8 million).
